It was a mighty fine trip, that’s about as plain and simple as I can put it.  Venice– a beautiful place, but they sure gouge you every chance they get, which gets old quick.  What can you say, it’s a tourist trap. Then a wonderful visit to the Monti mill, dinner with Bruno and his fine, gracious people.  Scouring the shops and alleyways for more Italian influence.  Later– Milano Unica.  Great fabric and fashion inspiration, running into a couple familiar faces, making many new & fruitful connections.

Most of all, it’s nice to be home.  Home with the family I haven’t seen enough of this summer.  It makes you appreciate those you love, and want to treat them extra well.

Ouch.  Those belts CANNOT be comfortable, and the large-scale prints on the right are not particularly flattering on the caboose.  The things we do in the name of fashion.

Anyway… headed to Italy to visit our shirting mill, and then hopping to Milano Unica to peruse the finest fabrics the world has to offer.  We’ll be sure to report anything & everything worth reporting, and I’ll even try to squeak out a few artsy-fartsy iPhone pics just for giggles & grins.

Cheers.

Salone Internazionale del Mobile | Furniture Fashion Play

MILAN — Home collections have been among the bright spots in the recession-plagued fashion and luxury goods worlds, so it’s no surprise brands were keen to piggyback on the international Salone Internazionale del Mobile fair this year in the hopes of luring consumers to buy more fashion, not just furniture.

Some amazing pieces that caught my eye, via WWD–

ermanno scervino

Ermanno Scervino

ERMANNO SCERVINO: The launch of the company’s first furniture and linens collection was inspired by the designer’s African vacations, namely to Kenya. Sofas, chairs and a canopy bed were covered or embellished with crocheted raffia in black or natural. Similarly, a raffia armchair had legs made of horns of zebu cow. The furniture is produced under license by Nicoletti.

Dsquared2 Fall 2009- “Puttin’ on the Rips”

The twins put on a show that looked like ‘old world’ tailored formalwear meets Rock ‘n’ Roll rebel.  The looks were very strong, when they stayed on message.

The ruggedly handsome leather & shearling outerwear was stunning, but left you wondering if the story really was ‘Estaire does denim’ or ‘tough country squire’?

The layered looks are great, and take a page straight out of Ralph Lauren’s book.  If anything at all, Ralph is the true master at consistency of message and focus.  Dean & Dan Caten should have taken that page too.
