Pendine Sands Hot Rod Races | 120 Film Photography by Jungle Pat

TSY THE SELVEDGE YARD PENDINE SANDS HOT ROD RACES JUNGLE PAT 2

“With caffeine levels topped up for the five hour journey to south wales, I was finally going to experience the buzz that surrounds the VHRA Pendine Sands Hot Rod Races.Stepping back in time doesn’t quite do it justice. It’s one of those events that people can’t stop talking about, and they assure others that haven’t been that they need to make the pilgrimage. Everyone congregates on the hill waiting for the tide to go out before the racing can begin– and when it did the two hundred strong fleet of rods seemed endless making their way to the pits on the historic beach.

TSY THE SELVEDGE YARD PENDINE SANDS HOT ROD JUNGLE PAT 2

With the sun bursting through the few clouds in the sky, it was as if our brothers across the pond at the east coast The Race Of Gentleman in Wildwood NJ, had sent some sunshine to the U.K. as rods and customs were kicking up sand on both sides of the Atlantic.

THE MORNING AFTER TROG… | TSY WOMEN’S COLLECTION PHOTO SHOOT

TSY-ladies-of-TROG-29

Wildwood was a blast this summer. As we planned our trip down the Jersey shore to TROG, we were lucky enough to have a great group of friends rally to pull-off an impromptu photo shoot for the new TSY women’s collection. Busy schedules and hangovers aside, this group gathered wearing smiles and bearing hugs at an ungodly hour. Thank you to these badass beauties: Nadine Anderson, Jessica Paviluk, Jocelyn Cohen, Natalie Finch. Thank you dudes behind the camera: Allan Glanfield assisted by Ryan Handt. Special thanks to the great folks at the Pink Cadillac Diner, and tattoo artist Electric Sheena for designing our new women’s TSY T-shirts. Art direction and styling by Ashley Smalley.

THE RACE OF GENTLEMEN 2016 | FACES BEHIND THE RACES– SHOT BY SEAN MADDEN

sean madden tsy the selvedge yard trog_0586

Sara Francello — To say she’s the TROG flag-girl is like saying Michael Jordan was a Chicago Bulls’ guard. I don’t know where the hell Sara gets the energy to jump and do what she does out there time and time again with such oomph and enthusiasm. When the racers line-up there’s no question who is in charge, and who has everyone’s attention. You may not remember all the hot rods and bikes at TROG– but you will remember Sara and how she gave it all out there on the sand for 2 days straight.  Photo © Sean Madden

THE RACE OF GENTLEMEN– RACE TO TROG | DKS FILMS

Ian Beaudoux and the DKS! crew spent eight months documenting the build of a 1928 Ford Roadster. Check out BMX’er Heath Pinter as he builds the roadster and treks cross-country to participate in The Oilers Car Club The Race of Gentlemen. I ran into Ian at TROG in Wildwood and have been waiting to see the fruits of his labor– so her ya go.

TROG | MEL STULTZ ON THE OILERS CC / MC, THE RACE OF GENTLEMEN, AND THE WORLD

“The Oilers Car Club was founded in 1947, by five guys returning from World War II. They dreamt, not only of girls while they were away, but of speed. They were a bunch of guys that were interested in going fast, and trying to figure out ways to go faster. One of the founders names was Jim Nelson– he plays cards with a gentleman named Robert Genat– he puts out a book called “The Birth of Hot Rodding.”

Modern day times– me and my gang wound up writing Robert Genat and say– ‘You know this book is just mesmerizing.’ He writes us back and says, ‘Send pictures of your cars.’ He is blown away. He has no idea that there’s guys on the east coast that are emulating what was happening in the 1940s. He and I got talking, and he asked if we’d be interested in taking the club over. And we were just floored. We had no idea that one of the coolest racing clubs in the world would ask us to carry the torch.”

–Mel Stultz (Oilers CC/MC, The Race of Gentlemen, AKA TROG)

THE RACE OF GENTLEMEN 2015 VIDEO | IF YOU WANNA RACE, WILDWOOD’S THE PLACE!

Man, The Race of Gentlemen 2015 already feels like a long time back. Damn the blasted holidays for drowning out the amazing memories on the beach and off-season streets of Wildwood, NJ! More good times, familiar faces, new friends, and great races than you could shake a stick at. Mel Stultz, Bobby Green, Sara Francello, Hollywood, and the entire TROG crew over-delivered on a great event, even in the face of a hurricane threat. In honor of them, and to relive the good times, here’s a great little TROG 2015 film shot by the crew at awol.tv x worthless.co–

“This is the closest thing to time travel we will probably experience in our lifetimes. The Race of Gentlemen challenges the owners of hot rods and motorcycles from the 1940’s and earlier to drag race as it used to be done– at the wave of the flag and on the beach. We ventured to Wildwood, NJ to watch the most unique racing we’ve ever seen.”
