Picture this: A bike shop burns to the ground in Philadelphia. There’s a fire sale a couple days later. There you see a burnt up 1951 BSA Star Twin motor up for grabs and you think “There’s my land speed racing motor!”
Well that’s exactly what Dan Daughenbaugh did! After a couple of years building the “Greasy Gringo,” Dan now holds 12 world records with the Loring Timing Association (LTA) and the East Coast Timing Association (ECTA). Dan also raced this bike on the Salt Flats of Bonneville during Speed Week. (The Greasy Gringo currently resides at the TSY shop in new Hope, PA.)
Land speed racing wasn’t enough for Dan. He recently picked up a J & M Honda framer to try out some flat track action. With his framer dialed in, Dan is now the #1 plate holder for the American Motorcycle Association Vintage Class, as well as the Delaware Dirt Track Association.
This summer, Dan is planning on racing a 1941 Indian Scout streamliner during Speed Week at Bonneville. This streamliner will put Dan’s name in the record books right under Burt Monro.
